The most restless volcano on the planet has provoked destructive earthquakes. An unexpected powerful tsunami hit an island as a result of volcanic eruption.
Hello! This is Breaking News.
OLEG ALLATRA TV MOLDOVA REPORTER: Hello! This is Breaking News.
In the previous episodes, we already reported on a multitude of disasters which came crashing down upon Indonesia and Italy in the past month. And now, these countries are once again experiencing destruction. Additional details will be provided by ALLATRA TV reporters
VICTORIA, ALLATRA TV MALDIVES REPORTER: Hello! This is ALLATRA TV Maldives reporter Victoria.
On December 22nd, an unexpected tsunami damaged two densely populated islands in Indonesia near Sunda Strait. A giant wave pounced the coastal areas of Java and Sumatra islands.
Hundreds of houses and buildings were destroyed as a consequence of the natural disaster, water carried and turned over cars. Evacuation of victims is being carried out. According to the latest data, over 430 people have been recorded deceased, and about 7 thousand have been injured. Hundreds are considered to be missing.
Based on the preliminary reports by the Indonesian authorities, the cause of the tsunami might have been an underwater landslide, provoked by the activity of the Krakatau volcano located on the Anak Krakatau island.
The volcano is continuing to undergo active eruption. Hot ash ejections have become more frequent, and clouds of smoke have gotten denser. According to the Air Traffic Control Agency AirNav, due to the volcano eruption, the volcanic alert level has been raised to the fifth and highest level, and because of this all flights have been redirected.
In addition, the authorities continue to encourage people to stay away from the coast. According to the scientists’ data, as of December 29th, the volcano height was 100 meters above sea level, whereas previously, it was estimated to be 338 meters.
In addition, the volcano also lost on volume, which decreased from 180 million м³ to 40-70 million м³
An access to the volcano is difficult, because of the ongoing seismic activity and rough seas. Therefore, scientists have made their conclusions based on the analysis of satellite images of the volcano, which were obtained from european devices.
In 1883, a powerful and catastrophic eruption took place on the Krakatau volcano, which destroyed the larger part of the island.
Because of the tsunami, caused by this eruption, 36 thousand people died, 165 cities and colonies were completely destroyed. Significant eruptions over a period of three months lead up to the catastrophic eruption.

INNA, ALLATRA TV REPORTER, ITALY: Hello! This is ALLATRA TV reporter from Italy.
On December 24th, an eruption of the highest active volcano in Europe - Etna occurred on the Italian island of Sicily. On December 23rd, the National Institute of Geophysics and Volcanology of Italy reported strange seismic activity. Scientists noticed about 130 aftershocks near the volcano, the most powerful was rated with a magnitude 4.
The eruption occurred from a new crack on the southeast side of the volcano. A column of ash reached a height of 7.5 kilometers.During the eruption, the volcano expelled multiple dust clouds and a huge amount of rocks into the air. Due to the eruption, the operation of Catania airport had to be suspended.
On December 26, a 5.0 magnitude earthquake occurred at a depth of about 10 km in the active volcano area, just 2 km from the town of Aci Castello, located near the Sicilian city of Catania. The aftershocks caused the destruction of a dozen buildings. About 30 people were injured.
It is worth mentioning that lately Etna has been very active , and according to the Global Volcanism Program of the Smithsonian Institution, this eruption is part of a sequence that began in September 2013.
_______________
OLEG , ALLATRA TV REPORTER, MOLDOVA: Our friend Giuseppe Mastrolorenzo, volcanologist, leading specialist of the National Observatory of Vesuvius, commented on the situation that occurred on the island of Sicily.
MARIA, ALLATRA TV REPORTER, RUSSIAN FEDERATION: We wanted to ask about the latest activity of Etna. Etna is considered as an active volcano, a constantly active one, and on 24th December an eruption occurred with many tremors at the same time. How much does this eruption differ from all the others?
GIUSEPPE MASTROLORENZO, A lead scientist of the Vesuvius Observatory: Today, the number of jolts is much greater. These are rather characteristic eruptions, in which there are large lava fountains.
The peculiarity of this eruption was that on 26th December, an especially strong earthquake occured, with a magnitude of 4.8 - 4.9, which caused great damage to nearby settlements, because the epicenter was very close to the surface. An earthquakes of this type, like the earthquake on 26th December, and the earthquake this morning, the last, were not provoked directly by a volcano, but by the pressure of magma that penetrates through faults, which are called DIKES. There are many risks, because the magma is compressed, that is, it produces pressure in the rocks and therefore creates an imbalance, so at any moment an earthquakes can occur.
However, usually the magnitude is not very high, but if we consider, that they are very superficial, as I said, even an earthquakes of about 4 magnitude, which are generally regarded as a modest magnitudes, it can provoke enormous damage to the surface, and even casualties, if people don’t hide in security. Therefore, this is the highest risk.
The critical moment for Etna is precisely during the eruptions, because it is not known where, in what direction the faults will spread, so you need to follow the everyday changes.
It is necessary to monitor the eruption, because no one can, that is, there are hypotheses, models, this is a volcano, which has very large monitoring, which the National Institute of Geophysics and Volcanology very closely follows, therefore, there are many sensors, a seismic network, networks that monitor ground deformation, satellite measurements, measurements of gas composition, however, all of this serves to describe, just as for Campi Flegrei and for and for other volcanoes, to describe what is happening, but not as tool for pre legends.
I’m always saying that monitoring systems, even the most highly developed in the world, serves to describe to what happened up to one thousandth of a second ago, but do not allow making forecasts for the next one thousandth of a second, therefore, it is impossible to base volcano safety on forecasting but it must be based on prevention, so be prepared.

ULYANA, ALLATRA TV REPORTER, ITALY: Hello, this is ALLATRA TV reporter from Italy
On January 1st, earthquake magnitude 4.2 struck the central part of Italy .
The aftershocks were felt in the residential areas of the regions of Abruzzo and Lazio, as well as in some regions of Rome and the Vatican.
Following Etna, the StrOmboli volcano on the Aeolian Islands, which was asleep for the last 10 years, has awakened. The consequences of its eruption can be very serious - it is being carefully monitored by scientists.
Another earthquake occurred on January 5th, 2019 during the night in the city of Syracuse in Sicily. According to National Institute of Geophysics and Volcanology, three earthquake shocks were recorded.
First, of 2.7 magnitude. The second of 3.2. For both, the epicenter was located a few kilometers from Sortino (in the province of Syracuse), and the third occurred on the coast of Syracuse with a magnitude of 2.7.
I am very glad that I am a participant of the ALLATRA movement, where all people are true friends, and there is internal support.
Thanks to the Knowledge from the books of Anastasia Novykh and programs with Igor Mikhailovich Danilov, I understand that it is important for a person to first of all find in himself an inner support. Material values are temporary and can be lost at any time, as the ongoing cataclysms show.
For me, as a local resident, this knowledge became very important and helped me realize that human life is priceless. Therefore, when I accepted this knowledge,it became impossible not to share. I want to help other people, so they can also accept(this knowledge), , so they can understand that the most important thing that unites us is Love and desire to live. Therefore we need to unite!
_______________
In the next episode:
GIUSEPPE MASTROLORENZO: There is some connection between Stromboli and Etna. Certain mechanism exists at the level of the earth's crust. This is the control of both volcanic systems. The main risk, in the case of Stromboli, is that it may collapse.
MARIA: You have already participated in the international climate conference of Allatra International Public Movement, where we try to gather scientists together, honest and decent people who are speaking the truth, who want to contribute to society, people from all over the world who want to unite, scientists, active people, also people who survived large climatic catastrophes.
During the conference, we spoke with people of Indonesia and they talked about the incredible unity of people after a natural disaster, but since there is no possibility of notifying people about upcoming earthquakes, for example, for some reason, they were not warned of an upcoming tsunami, even about the two last tsunami with an interval of one and a half to two months.
Maybe you can share your opinion - we know that to unite all technology, to implement all that you have said in the future, it is possible only if all people unite on a spiritual and moral basis all over the world, if most people will understand that they need to unite on the basis of ethical, human, spiritual values, real values.
GIUSEPPE MASTROLORENZO: From the point of view of science - research is progressing, we know much more about earthquakes, volcanoes and natural disasters in general, including the risks of climatic disasters, including those affecting the entire planet, and even about disasters caused by extraterrestrial origin such as asteroids, but we also know the limit of our capabilities.
In many cases, the population is convinced that nothing can be done at all, and therefore they are accepting a fatalistic position and believe that if something happens, nothing will save them, or vice versa, it is m ore than clear, that everything is possible in technologically and highly developed society.
In fact, we are in neither position, some things can be done for safety, and in other cases there is little that can be done if this is not a warning, or the provision of assistance.
For example, during a tsunami, we know that it is possible to predict the possible risk of a tsunami when there are especially strong earthquakes, in places of very high risk, and therefore, there are tsunami warning tools that inform the population even thousands of kilometers away. Because the tsunami wave is very fast. It moves at speed of hundreds of kilometers per hour and can reach thousands of kilometers. However, ther e is time to inform all the residents that live along the coast, so that they can escape by just moving to higher ground. This unfortunately could not be done during the last tsunami in Indonesia, since it was not the result of an earthquake and a landslide. A landslide is harder to predict. They are recorded by seismographs, but not by tsunami risk indicators. Only if there is no local alert system for an anomalous wave that has been formed locally.
_______________
Mika McKinnon, geophysicist, disaster researcher, explains the nature of a tsunami in Indonesia this way: “Volcanoes are sloppy heaps of poorly-glued- together rocks all slanted downhill. It doesn't take much for pieces to slip off. And if that piece happens to be large, it can send massive waves toward shore with little to no warning.
With such an active volcano, the hazards may change over time. This is a complicated situation, and it does not fall under the usual tsunami warning category, as there was no earthquake preceding the event.”
_______________
GIUSEPPE MASTROLORENZO: It is important that people acquire a sense of responsibility. In many high-risk places, in fact, the population, even being aware of the risk of earthquakes, volcanic eruptions or tsunamis, give their attention to other problems. They have other problems and other priorities. And they basically agree on the risks of death. Consider this risk.
MARIA: We all understand that these problems arise from consumer thinking, where even the value of life is lost. But human is a spiritual being and not an animal, the whole world is infected with the disease of consumerism and this problem lies at the basis of people's perception of natural disasters, so they believe that this will not affect them, it leads to making wrong decisions when evacuation plans are not made, when they build where it is impossible to build and all this happens just in the absence of real spiritual human values. How important, in your opinion, is it to return to these values, which are not so much ethical, but these are values that are vital for each of us, in our every step, in every decision, how important is it to change the outlook, to change the values?
GIUSEPPE MASTROLORENZO: Yes, yes. It is definitely very important. Because really, these systems, these consumer societies, from now on, with globalization. The whole world tends to unite in consumerism, in pseudo-values, which are not values, but opposites.
Therefore, the fundamental goal also to improve our ability to survive in natural disasters is to return true values to people - it is harmony, good inner well-being, well-being, happiness not tied to material values but just to spiritual ones in a broad sense, so to speak, the values that occur from mutual aid, cooperation and interaction, and not from competition for material values.
MARIA: Thank you!! This your conclusion is wonderful! I also wanted to ask, on your opinion, how important are these meetings that the ALLATRA IPM is presenting? Such as climate conferences, because they are held for people who are active, honest, uniting them on the basis of just these real values, not only for combining knowledge, technology, people from different countries, but specifically creating a platform where people can talk heartily from soul to soul.
GIUSEPPE MASTROLORENZO: It is good that all possible resources are used, such as communication and knowledge sharing, because this is definitely a positive direction - this communication and the exchange of some things at the world level, this knowledge exchange and knowledge dissemination. We hope that from these initiatives for the dissemination of knowledge and communication, cultural dissemination, positive processes will appear.
MARIA: Any scientist is first of all a person and no matter what place you occupy - you are a politician or a scientist, and in any other sphere, in the field of education, these are, first of all, people who work everywhere and when these people, if most of them understand that they need to change values, they will understand and accept these values, which are real values and which are originally embedded in us - love, the desire to share with our neighbor, inner love and not love for material objects, not to use but to share.
GIUSEPPE MASTROLORENZO: Of course.
MARIA: And in this way we can really change everything, we can combine ideas and the practical aspect which becomes much simpler because there is such an association, an internal association within each person, there is an understanding of common values. Thus disappear the interests of third parties, so to speak, negative, which may affect decision-making. It is very simple in our opinion.
GIUSEPPE MASTROLORENZO: It is necessary to act quickly to a more holistic understanding of the human being and society, which include many things. Going from full competition, from full hoarding, using logic and rationalism as almost the only tool in a human being to full perception, now we can afford it, but we need to return these values, this perception, and also spirituality. This is fundamental. Not in religious form, but in the form of the unity of the universe.
